Canon EOS Rebel T5 vs Canon EOS Rebel SL1 – Comparison:

Despite of the fact that there was around a year gap between when both of these cameras were manufactured, the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 was initially $499 more expensive than the other at the time of their launch. But with the passage of time both of the cameras have now become broadly comparable.

The specifications and technical aspects of the cameras are pretty much the same as they both incorporate large 18 MP APS-C CMOS image sensor that is paired with the 9 point auto focus system coupled with the single central cross auto focus point.

Both the cameras are widely comparable in video making too as they both hold the capability of recording full HD video at 1080p but the differences begin to show when the EOS Rebel SL1 provides the facility of continuous live Auto Focus in movie making mode.

Irrespective of these similarities it is safe to stay that EOS Rebel SL1 starts, unsurprisingly, win over the other in terms of specifications. Canon EOS Rebel SL1 model incorporates a quality 3 inch LCD touch screen of resolution 1040k  resolution which is far more impressive than the 460k non touch version incorporated in the Canon Rebel T5. Elsewhere, the newly designed DIGIC 5 image processor coupled with the luxury of continuous shooting speed of 4 frames per second guarantees much better image quality compared to the 3 frames per second offered by the Canon Rebel T5.

But if you’re looking for something that will help your budget, please keep note that except differences mentioned in the above cameras, majority of the specifications are somewhat similar in the two cameras. But the most notable factor for the camera enthusiasts is that they could afford a very nice 50 mm prime lens with the money they’ll save by opting for the Canon EOS Rebel T5 over the slightly expensive and not majorly upgraded Canon model EOS Rebel SL1.

Comments

  1. A Correction: The lens that comes with the SL1 is a STM lens, which has silent autofucus, (and is much faster) and the front element does not rotate for focus, (good for polarized filters) which is a massive improvement to the lens on the T5. The SL1 also has the ability to accept an external microphone, and the T5 does not. The SL1 can also focus on whatever you touch on the screen during video. For the $100 extra, its a much better camera for me. I bought the T5 and returned it within a week and upgraded to the SL1…way more than worth it. Image quality is better too.

  2. Nice article and thanks Drew for the comment. My wife has been wanting a nice beginner camera and I was undecided between the two. I think I will go with the SL1.
